AAZK meeting minutes August 01,2006
Present: Tom Aversa, Amy Davis, Doreen Thompson, Carolyn Austin, Celine (?), Roz Sealy, Chris Kluener, Steve Cremer, Norah Farnham
Bowling for Rhinos wrap up: the final tally was done after the meeting, but before I had a chance to type up these minutes, so here they are:
Total funds being sent to BFR national: $12, 875.80
Norah will send out final results zoo wide, hopefully this week. I’ll also send a letter of thanks to Jennifer McCrary and Aramark for their great support. We’ll also do a Certificate of Appreciation; Amy Davis will make that once I get her the text.
Norah and Carolyn are meeting with Emily Gooding at the Sheraton to begin negotiating our contract for the 2009 conference. We hope to have something signed by the end of August.
PARTY! We received a donation of a gift certificate from Casper’s catering. We thought we’d throw ourselves a “Good job!” party soon, to celebrate finalizing the hotel contract and another successful year of bowling. The Reading Gaol is a good option since it’s close to the zoo and has that party room off to the side. Stay tuned.
Voted to give Roz and Carolyn $175 each for registration for the AAZK conference. They both received partial funding from the zoo.
We should make a Power Point presentation to show at an all staff meeting to highlight our recent achievements. We continue to be very active and productive, and want to make sure the rest of the zoo knows what we’re up to. It could also encourage more members to join us. Norah will ask Pete if he’d be willing to do this. (Note Pete’s days off have changed, so for now he will not be here for our regular Tuesday meetings)
Roz is going to check and see if our donation was sent to Peter Dickinson.
Conservation grant applications are due September 30. Carolyn will send out an email so people are reminded to start filling them out.
DVD update: The shot Chris made at Bowling turned out very well. Chris has also spent a lot of time the past week getting various shots around Seattle. There are still MANY scenes we need to shoot, Chris will be sending out email plea for more people to sign up.
Tom A. brought a letter requesting our support (financial) for the upcoming IAATE conference in Tacoma. Kate Gordon, who is working here now as a jaguar interpreter and also w/ the Ed animals, is one of the conference organizers.
Carolyn will send an email asking for a vote for our support. We will possibly sponsor a break or lunch.
