Conservation Fund Grant Application
Criteria
Conservation
funds from the Puget Sound AAZK Chapter focus on wildlife conservation,
in-situ / ex-situ research, conservation education, habitat preservation
and restoration.
Application
Process
Anyone
in the zoo community is welcomed to apply but either needs to
be a PSAAZK member or sponsored by a PSAAZK member. Awards
will be made two times a year. The deadlines are for applications
are 31 March and 30 September. All
proposals must be submitted in electronic format to a member
of the PSAAZK executive committee. (PSAAZK Executive Committee
2006: Carolyn Austin, Jean Ragland, Roz Sealy and Pat Owen)
All
applications received by the deadlines above will be reviewed
at the next general meeting of Puget Sound AAZK and distributed
by e-mail to the membership. AAZK membership will have a two-week
comment period in which they may submit questions or comments
to the AAZK project representative.
Each
proposal will be reviewed initially using the following point
system. Proposals must earn at least 6 of the 12 points for funding
consideration.
Sponsored by a PS-AAZK member (2 points)
Sponsor is active in the PS-AAZK chapter (2 points)
Proposal includes chapter member participation (2 points)
Proposal relates to species kept at Woodland Park Zoo
(2 points)
Proposal relates to a species/habitat that is threatened
or endangered
(2 points)
Proposal is well organized and/or well presented (2
points)
The
applicant or AAZK representative will be invited to present the
project proposal at the next respective general meeting (May/
November). Membership will have another month to make further
inquires. Voting will take place and awards granted at the next
respective general meeting (June/ December).
Within
a year of grant approval the applicant or PSAAZK representative
will present a project summary or status report to the Chapter.
Sponsorship by the Puget Sound Chapter of American Association
of Zoo Keepers will be acknowledged in all publications or presentations.
