My name is David white and I am currently working as an assistant section manager at Marwell Wildlife, Hampshire in the UK . I started my keeping career at a small collection caring for a range of exotic bird species including soft bills, cranes, owls and flamingos. I was fortunate enough to have my first experiences of hand rearing , rearing Kookaburras Dacelo novaeguineaeand Crested Seriemas Cariama cristata

Wanting to enhance my zoo keeping knowledge as well as travel I embarked on a 12 month trip visiting zoos and wildlife parks in North America , South Africa , New Zealand and Australia were I was fortunate enough to work in a number of collections ranging from 2 day stints to 3months at Melbourne zoo.

I have been employed at Marwell for 8 years and have had the pleasure to work with a range of different species. Species under my care at present include Giant anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla Mishmi Takin Budorcas taxicolor taxicolorBrazilian Tapir Tapirus terrestrisand Pygmy Hippo Hexaprotodon liberiensis. I also sit on the zoo’s Environmental enrichment committee.

I currently am the Sub EEP coordinator for red panda Ailurus fulgens and recently undertook a worldwide husbandry survey for this species in 2007/08.

I am interested in all species especially primates. In 2005 I visited a field research station in Sahamalaza region, north west Madagascar where the blue eyed black lemur lemur macaco flavifrons and other native species are being studied.
