Jacque Blessington has been a zoo keeper at the Kansa City Zoo in Missouri since March of 1990. She has experience with an extensive variety of animals including elephants. Jacque has an emphasis working with macropods and sea lions and is currently a member of a team that works with African animals. Prior to coming to Kansas City Jacque worked at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, IA as a seasonal zoo keeper from 1988-1989. Her educational background is a BS in Animal Ecology from Iowa State University in 1989.

Jacque is currently the Tree Kangaroo SSP Coordinator and has participated in two publications of the husbandry manual for that species. She has also coordinated 3 tree kangaroo workshops, the last being held in Germany . She is also the coordinator and presenter of the Australasian workshop at the National AAZK conference and has presented various papers and posters at both the AAZK and AZA conferences.

Jacque has been a member of AAZK’s National Board of Director’s from 1997- present and has served as the association’s vice president form 1999-2003. Since joining the association in 1990, she has been the Kansas City Chapter’s president and vice president for seven years and has served on various committees including coordinating the Bowling for Rhinos fundraiser. Jacque attended the AZA Population Management I school in 1997 and is currently a co-administrator and instructor for the AZA/AAZK Advances in Animal Keeper Course.
