Tom Wall has worked at the Saint Louis Zoo for the past 9 years. He has an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences. Tom first started working part time in security but quickly became a keeper in the Emerson Electric Children’s Zoo where he worked with a large variety of species from primates to reptiles. It was here that he became interested in avian husbandry. Tom worked in the Monsanto Insectarium until being hired as a full time bird keeper in 2002. Tom is the Bird Departments Enrichment Committee liaison in addition to his regular keeper duties. He attended and presented a paper at the 2005 ICEE Conference “Creating a Simple and Concise Enrichment Documentation System to Build a Bird Enrichment Database”. Tom authored an article for “STLZOO” Magazine about the departments hand-rearing Caribbean Flamingos. Tom has also entered all the data changes for the Crested Screamer Studbook for the past 3 years. Tom is a member of AAZK, the Cormorant Research Group, Flamingo Specialist Group and Flamingo Resource Group.
