Dr. Jensvold has worked with chimpanzees since 1986. She has experience in sanctuary and zoo settings both in husbandry and research. She is the Associate Director of the Chimpanzee & Human Communication Institute at Central Washington University in Ellensburg , WA . This is home to 3 chimpanzees who use American Sign Language to communicate. Dr. Jensvold’s research has focused on chimpanzee communication and animal welfare. She has trained hundreds of student interns in chimpanzee husbandry and conducted husbandry workshops at CHCI for visiting volunteers and interns. She has numerous publications on chimpanzee behavior in journals and books.
