I have had a passion for wildlife for as long as I can remember with my Father being an enthusiastic aviculturist who keeped a mix of Australian and Exotic birds. We were also the neighbourhood “animal rescue centre” so I have been caring for an array of native Australian animals since I was 5 years old. I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in 1993 and in 1994 began a short career as a domestic animal Veterinary Nurse before taking up a position as a Wildlife Keeper at a small privately owned Wildlife Park in far north Queensland where I worked for 5 years and completed my Certificate in Zookeeping. In 2000 I moved to take up a position at Healesville Sanctuary where I worked for 7 years in several areas including the Threatened Species Section and the Australian Wildlife Health Centre where I completed my studies in Veterinary Nursing. In 2008 I accepted the position of Senior Keeper with the Tasmanian Governments Department of Primary Industries and Water Save the Tasmanian Devil Program. This program is the cornerstone of the race to save the Tasmanian Devil from extinction at the hands of the Devil Facial Tumour Disease. I am also the Treasurer of the Australasian Society of Zoo Keeping.
