Goddard, Kara - Bird, Reptile and Amphibian keeper

Hamilton Zoo, New Zealand

Kara.goddard@hcc.govt.nz

I have worked at Hamilton Zoo for 14 years, mainly on the bird and reptile sections. I have had some experience working with the mammals but my passion is the native NZ Fauna.

I work with both native and exotic birds and reptiles and enjoy the challenges.

I hold three studbooks Duvaucel’s gecko, Tui and Hochstetter’s frogs.

I live in the country with my elderly dog and spend my spare time doing indoor rock climbing and playing indoor netball.

The most rewarding part of my job is being able to release animals to the wild, especially if we have bred them here at the Zoo. It’s great to leave the Zoo and see New Zealand ’s wild places and to know we are doing our bit for conservation.
