Beth Carlyle-Askew announced she was going to be a zoo keeper when she was five years old. She began volunteering at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle Washington when she was twelve. After receiving her BS in Biology from Washington State University , she returned as a volunteer and then as a seasonal temporary zoo keeper. During this time, she also worked as a licensed veterinary technician and hospital manager in a veterinary hospital. She was hired as a full time zoo keeper in 2006. She has worked in many different areas as a relief keeper and is currently a lead keeper for the Australasia and Northern Trail areas.
